Meet Our Mentors
Landon Berry
Lead Mentor
Landon is Lead Mentor of FWSS, and our students ADORE him.
He is an avid musician of several instruments and gives lessons to students who want to learn to play. He has a background in special education and theater, loves films, and has helped interested students learn how to create films using green screen technology. He currently teaches weekly classes on 20th Century Literature, Geopolitics, Theater, and Photography.
Landon’s best skill is just listening to the kids who LOVE to talk to him.
Kris
Mentor & North Texas Sudbury President
Kris is the parent of one FWWS student, a part-time mentor, and the President of North Texas Sudbury, the 501(c)3 that operates as FWSS.
Kris is a theater nerd, lover of psychology, and has a special touch with our littles. She is also an avid reader.
Emily
Mentor & North Texas Sudbury Treasurer
Emily is the parent of two amazing FWSS students, a part-time mentor, and serves as Treasurer for North Texas Sudbury.
Emily’s special interest is encouraging parents to liberate their children from traditional schooling. She enjoys working in our school garden, making zines, 20th century history, and having philosophical conversations with our students. She’s our go to Philosophy guide, and the heart of the school.
Charity
Mentor & North Texas Sudbury Secretary
Charity is parent to one amazing FWSS student, the Secretary of the North Texas Sudbury Board, and a part-time mentor.
Her interests include too many books to read; writing, baking, criminal justice issues, mental health, and restorative justice.
You can often find her cooking with students and picking up random objects around the school. She’s also the mentor who helps the littles with the Reading Buddy program, helps Matty with Gastro Geography, and is developing a Comparative Government class for the students.
Heidi
Mentor
Heidi is a parent of two FWSS students and a part-time mentor; she is a neurodivergent and bipolar woman.
She is a former airplane electrician who worked on F-16s and has a love for space and earth-bound aviation. She loves sewing and helps our students with anything involving fabric and stitches.
Heidi is our Dungeons & Dragons guru, holds astronomy classes, and helps organize an annual camping trip to gaze at the stars. She is also mom to Annabelle, our part-time comfort dog.
Annabelle
Service dog
Annabelle’s humans are Heidi and all the students at FWSS.
She’s Heidi’s service dog and comes to school every Tuesday and Thursday.
Christina
Mentor
Christina is a parent of two amazing FWSS students and a part-time mentor. She is currently completing a Master’s in fine arts at UT Arlington.
Christina heard about FWSS when she was looking for a good option for two of her triplets, whose needs weren’t being met in a traditional school setting. She loves the community and the collaborative nature of the Sudbury model, which gives students an active role in their own education.
Kevin
Mentor & Technical Specialist
Kevin is a FWSS parent and our technical specialist. He is a software developer with a B.S. in Computer Science, which makes him an integral part of the FWSS team and the FWSS computer lab.
Lily
Mentor
Lily is a parent of three amazing FWSS students and a part-time mentor. She has a BS in Biology and a minor in Computer Science. She enjoys gardening, anime, spooky things, and taking care of her 4 cats.
Lily is FWSS’s de facto science teacher when called upon. She runs dissections, STEAM classes, and a cryptid club. She also helps in the school garden and assisted students in creating a school newspaper. She also helps run our social media sites.
Matt
Mentor
Matt is the parent of one amazing FWWS student and a part time mentor. His interests include gaming, origami, 3D printing, wood working, being outdoors, and biking.
